SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThis photo was taken in August 2013 during “Bats and Blues” at the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary.  This free, public event featured live blues music, refreshments, and a spectacular evening viewing of endangered gray bats flying out of Cave Springs Cave.

There is a population of approximately 4,700 endangered gray bats living in Cave Springs Cave this year.  This population has increased by approximately 300 since last year!  The bats live in Cave Springs Cave from March until September, and then they migrate to Cave Mountain Cave near Boxley, Arkansas, to hibernate for the winter.

On Saturday, August 23, 2014, come and see the gray bats in Cave Springs before they migrate.  The Illinois River Watershed Partnership will host “Bats and Bluegrass” once again at the Watershed Sanctuary, featuring Fayetteville bluegrass quartet, Arkansauce.  We hope you can join us!
