Cave Springs Picnic Flyer
This newspaper clipping from 1932 describes the annual Cave Springs community picnic at “Lock Lono,” which, at that time, was the name of the spring-fed lake that is now part of the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary. As you’ll notice at the end of the report, the 1932 event was greatly anticipated because the lake property was under new management. We at the Illinois River Watershed Partnership hope to restore old traditions and events surrounding this lake with the grand opening of the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary later this year.
