Did you know that the lake in Cave Springs is entirely spring-fed? In this photograph, taken in the early 1940’s, you can see that the lake used to back all the way up to the mouth of the cave and limestone bluff line. As you can also see, there were floating platforms for sunbathers and swimmers who dared to plunge into the frigid lake. Thanks to Pat Simpson of Cave Springs for sharing this photo with us!
On Saturday, November 8, join us for the Lake Centennial Celebration to celebrate the rich history of the Illinois River Watershed and the lake in Cave Springs. At this event, we will bury a time capsule and publicly announce the new name of the lake at the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary!
