Ever wondered what the world would look like if you were a fish? During our Art and Nature Camp the week of June 16th, we asked a group of 8-12 year olds just that. As you can see from their amazing art, the underwater world of a fish can be quite interesting indeed!
We fish, we fish, we merrily swim,
We care not for friend nor for foe.
Our fins are stout,
Our tails are out,
As through the seas we go.
- Herman Melville
During our Art and Nature Camp, the IRWP staff and local artists work with campers to create nature-based are projects at the Illinois River Watershed Sanctuary in Cave Springs.

Brenda Laney will be our guest artist at our next Art and Nature Camp. A California native, Brenda has made Arkansas her home for the past forty-five years. After giving her devotion to raising and educating her seven children she has turned her attention to the pursuit of her artistic career. Continually pursuing excellence in the quality of her artistic expression; Brenda is motivated to bless others and to honor her Creator.
“It is not just quality painting that I desire, it is also blessing others through a visual and emotional experience. I want to take them to a place either in the viewer’s past or in their future. A place or a human connection they can dream about experiencing or revisiting. I would hope the viewer and I could experience connectedness through the painting. The application of paint and the creative process is a rewarding way to take others along with you.”
Brenda has studied under acclaimed fine artists such as: Dan Gerhertz, Stephen Quiller, Elizabeth Pruitt Robbins, Todd Williams, Kay Polk, John Poon, and John Pototoschnik. She has received numerous awards and is a commissioned painter. Brenda is a member of Oil Painter’s of America and serves as a Board Member of Artist’s of Northwest Arkansas. She enjoys traveling with her husband of 37 years to such places as Italy, Russia, Mexico, and throughout the United States.
Our Art and Nature Camp is just one of the ways that we encourage the community to discover the Illinois River Watershed through the Arts.
